About this course
BA (Hons) English Literature and History is an undergraduate joint honours degree spanning English Literature and History, focusing on cultural and historical texts from various periods. Core topics include Research Methods. The course features an interdisciplinary bridge module called Texts and Histories taught exclusively to joint degree students, alongside placement year and year abroad options. In the first year, students study compulsory modules such as Writing Modernity, Evidence and Methods, and Political Communities in World History to build foundational knowledge. The second year introduces the interdisciplinary bridge module Texts and Histories alongside various optional subjects covering literature and historical periods. The final year centres on independent research through compulsory modules including Bridge Dissertation with English Supervisor and Bridge Dissertation with History Supervisor. Optional modules in the final year allow further specialisation in topics such as Black British History and Decolonisation, Modernism's Queer Spaces, and Medieval literature or history.
