A level: AAB including an A in English Literature (English Language and Literature is also acceptable) IB: 35 points including 6 in English Literature at Higher Level (Higher Level English Language and Literature is also acceptable) BTEC: DDD with an additional A Level or equivalent qualification in English Literature at grade A
About this course
BA (Hons) English Literature and Philosophy, a humanities degree centred on the study of literary texts and philosophical inquiry. Core topics include Research Methods. Students can optionally add a placement year or a year abroad to their studies. The first year covers core foundations through Writing Modernity, Other Worlds, Reading Now, Philosophical Analysis, Ethics, and Metaphysics and Humans. In the second year, students select from numerous optional modules across literature and philosophy, such as The Shock of the New: Medieval Literature, Creative Writing: Contemporary Practice, Logic and Paradox, and Aesthetics. The final year involves compulsory independent research through an English Dissertation and a Philosophy Short Dissertation. Optional modules in the final year allow further specialisation in areas like AI and Human Values, Buddhism as Philosophy, Green Romanticism: Nature, Ecology, Calamity, and The Writer's Notebook: A Prose Fiction Workshop.
