A level: AAB You do not need an A level in History of Art or a language IB: 35 points BTEC: DDD We consider a range of BTEC qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications. For example: Distinction, Distinction in BTEC Level 3 National Diploma plus A at A Level Distinction in BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate plus AA at A level Distinction, Distinction in 2 BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificates plus A at A level
About this course
BA (Hons) in BA (Hons) History of Art with Italian (with a year abroad), a Modern Languages and History of Art degree focused on the study of visual culture combined with language acquisition. Core topics include Research Methods. This four-year undergraduate course incorporates a year abroad spent at a partner institution or undertaking a work placement. The first year introduces fundamental concepts through compulsory modules such as Transmissions and Connections, Art History Now, The Practices of Art History, The Materials of Art and Architecture, Intensive Italian and Cultures: Beginner, and Understanding Italian-speaking Cultures and Societies. The second year advances linguistic proficiency and subject knowledge via Art and Its Institutions, Research Skills for Art History, and Italian Language and Cultures: Advanced, alongside optional choices covering periods ranging from ancient art to contemporary fashion history and global architecture. The final year involves advanced study through the compulsory BA Dissertation and Italian Language and Cultures: Proficient, paired with further optional modules on topics including World Cinemas: Representing National and Transnational Societies and Cultures, Art Law, and Independent Study in Languages and Cultures.
