About this course
BA (Hons) Human Geography and Environment, a geography degree focused on the relationships between people, places, and environments. Core topics include Research Methods, Fieldwork, and Global & Comparative Perspective. The course includes a final-year research project and practical fieldwork opportunities. The first year covers foundational concepts through Environment, Development and Society, Key Concepts in Human Geography, Equitable and Sustainable futures 1: Sites of Global Change, Introduction to Global Challenges, Introduction to Research Skills, and Environmental Change in the Anthropocene. The second year advances methodologies and perspectives with From Foundations to Innovations in Human Geography Research, Equitable and Sustainable Futures 2: Power and Place in the Global South, Engendering Change, and Research Skills and Project Design, alongside optional studies in Megacities and Urbanisation or Geographical Information Systems. The third year centres on independent investigation through the Research Project and Equitable and Sustainable Futures 3: Inequalities, Change and Hope, with further options available in Energy Transitions and Low Carbon Futures, Biodiversity and Society, and Tackling Britain’s Environmental Challenges (field course).
