About this course
BA (Hons) in BA (Hons) History and Italian (with a year abroad), an Italian and History degree focusing on language acquisition and historical analysis across global contexts. Core topics include Research Methods. The course includes a compulsory year abroad and offers optional teacher training modules in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. The first year introduces foundational concepts through Intensive Italian Language and Cultures: Beginner, Understanding Italian-speaking Cultures and Societies, Knowledge and Beliefs in World History, and Evidence and Methods. The second year advances linguistic proficiency with Italian Language and Cultures: Advanced alongside Historical Thinking, while allowing optional focus in areas such as Bankers, Merchants, and Poets: Florence and the Roots of the Renaissance and The Scientific Revolution, 1500-1700. The final fourth year consolidates advanced proficiency through Italian Language and Cultures: Proficient, alongside optional study options including Translation: Methodology and Practice, The Mafia from its Origins to the Present Day, and a History Dissertation.
