About this course
BA (Hons) Liberal Arts with Italian (with a year abroad), a liberal arts degree centred on interdisciplinary study of the arts and humanities combined with Italian language acquisition. Core topics include Data Analysis. This four-year degree includes a year spent abroad at a partner institution or undertaking a work placement, though students may opt to graduate after three years without the international placement. The curriculum culminates in an independent study component within languages and cultures. The first year establishes foundational perspectives through compulsory modules including Discovering the Humanities, Bridging the Humanities, Intensive Italian Language and Cultures: Beginner, and Understanding Italian-speaking Cultures and Societies, while offering numerous optional choices across history, archaeology, literature, music, and philosophy. The second year progresses with compulsory study in 'Real World' Humanities and Italian Language and Cultures: Advanced, alongside optional modules covering linguistics, art history, and film. The final fourth year involves advanced language and cultural analysis through compulsory modules such as Italian Language and Cultures: Proficient, The Mafia from its Origins to the Present Day, World Cinemas: Representing National and Transnational Societies and Cultures, Independent Study in Languages and Cultures, and Translation: Methodology and Practice, complemented by a broad selection of final-year optional topics.
