About this course

BA (Hons) Philosophy with Italian (with a year abroad), an undergraduate degree spanning Italian and Philosophy, examines fundamental questions alongside language acquisition. The course includes a mandatory year abroad spent studying at a partner institution or completing a work placement or internship. Students can also undertake in-house teacher training modules to gain a qualification in teaching English as a foreign language. The first year establishes core foundations through Knowledge and Perception, Logic, Ethics, Philosophical Analysis, Intensive Italian Language and Cultures: Beginner, and Understanding Italian-speaking Cultures and Societies. The second year advances linguistic and philosophical study via Philosophy of Language and Italian Language and Cultures: Advanced, while offering optional modules such as Aesthetics, Applied Ethics, and Philosophy of Mind. The final year comprises compulsory advanced language study through Italian Language and Cultures: Proficient, alongside a broad selection of optional topics ranging from Consciousness and The Nature of Time to The Mafia from its Origins to the Present Day and an Independent Study in Languages and Cultures.
