About this course

BA (Hons) Politics is an undergraduate degree within the politics and international relations subject area. Core topics include Research Methods. Students complete a dissertation in their final year, and have the option to add a placement year or year abroad to their studies. The first year introduces foundational themes through compulsory modules such as Political Analysis, Introduction to Comparative Politics, Introduction to Political Theory: States, Liberty and Revolution, and Introduction to Global Politics. The second year focuses on advanced theoretical concepts and methodological approaches via modules including Theories of the State and Research Design. Optional modules in the second and third years allow students to explore diverse themes such as European Union Politics, British Politics, International Crisis Diplomacy, and The Politics of Gender. In the final year, students undertake the Politics Dissertation as a compulsory independent research project. Optional modules span numerous specialised areas, ranging from political psychology and green politics to the politics of the Middle East.
