About this course
BA (Hons) Social and Public Policy (with a year in industry) is an undergraduate social policy degree focused on understanding the causes of societal problems and how societies attempt to solve them nationally and internationally. Core topics include Policy Analysis. The course includes a year in industry. The first year introduces foundational themes through compulsory modules such as Power, Policy and Social Progress, Contemporary Issues in Social and Public Policy, Economy and Society, and Social Harm and Injustice. The second year develops methodological and theoretical perspectives through compulsory modules including Policy Think Tank, Capitalism and the Public Good, Researching Policy and Society, and Social Inequalities, alongside optional modules covering crime and the life course, communities, participation and creating change, and disability and mental health perspectives. The final year centres on an independent study module and offers optional modules spanning welfare states and economic crises, housing and homelessness, global social problems, migration and immigration, education policy, and environmental justice.
