About this course

BA (Hons) BA (Hons) History and Spanish (with a year abroad), a Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies and History degree centred on the historical development and cultural production of Spanish-speaking regions alongside global history. Core topics include Research Methods. This four-year full-time course includes a year spent abroad. Students can also take in-house Teaching English as a Foreign Language modules. The first year covers the foundations through modules such as Spanish Language and Cultures: Upper Intermediate, Understanding Spanish-speaking Cultures and Societies, Knowledge and Beliefs in World History, and Evidence and Methods. The second year builds upon this knowledge with compulsory modules including Spanish Language and Cultures: Advanced and Historical Thinking, while offering optional modules such as Multiple identities in 21st Century Spain and Bankers, Merchants, and Poets: Florence and the Roots of the Renaissance. The final fourth year advances language proficiency through Spanish Language and Cultures: Proficient, alongside optional modules including Translation: Methodology and Practice, Latinos in the USA, and History Dissertation.
