BEng Electronic and Computer Engineering
Entry requirements
A level: ABB including Maths. IB: 34 points overall with grade 5 in Higher Level Mathematics - Applications and Interpretation or 5 in Higher Level or Standard Level Mathematics - Analysis and Approaches. BTEC: We consider a range of BTEC qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications. For example: DDM in the BTEC National Extended Diploma plus A level Maths grade B DD in the BTEC National Diploma in any subject plus A level Maths grade B D in the BTEC National Extended Certificate plus AB at A level including Mathematics We consider BTEC Level 3 National Diploma/ Extended Diploma with Unit 7- Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems and Unit 8- Further Engineering Mathematics in place of A Level Mathematics.
About this course
BEng (Hons) Electronic and Computer Engineering is an electrical and electronic engineering degree combining hardware and software studies. Core topics include Programming, Circuit Design, Signal Processing, and Data Analysis. The course is fully accredited by the IET and counts towards Chartered Engineer status, with an optional year in industry available prior to the final year. The first year covers foundational engineering principles through modules such as Introduction to Engineering, Programming and Digital Interfacing, Mathematics, Digital Electronics, Analogue Electronics, and Electronic Engineering Project 1. The second year expands into specialized technical areas via Mathematics, Signals and Systems, Electronics Project 2, Circuit Design, Control, Sensors and Instrumentation, Software Design, Data Analysis and Numerical Methods, alongside optional choices in Electromagnetism and Electrical Circuits and Systems. The final year involves core study in Cloud and Distributed Computing alongside the Individual Final Project. Students can also tailor their studies through optional modules covering Communication Systems and Digital Communications, Product Design, Development and Commercialization, Robotics Design and Construction, Biomedical Engineering, Advanced Sensors and Instrumentation, Digital Signal Processing, Electric Powertrain Design, Digital Engineering, and Photovoltaics and Solar Thermal Energy.
