About this course
BEng (Hons) Engineering (with a foundation year), an engineering degree designed to build academic foundations and professional expertise. Core topics include Programming, Signal Processing, and Engineering Design. The curriculum includes a foundation year focusing on mathematics and physics before progressing to standard degree study, and holds accreditation from the IET towards Chartered Engineer status. The course begins with unassigned foundational modules including Mathematics 1, Physics 1, and Skills for Engineering and the Physical Sciences 1. Year one introduces core concepts through Introduction to Engineering, Programming and Digital Interfacing, Mathematics, and Engineering Project 1. Year two develops technical capabilities with Mathematics, Signals and Systems, Engineering Project 2, Manufacturing and Fabrication, and Control, Sensors and Instrumentation. The final year centres on an Individual Final Project alongside optional modules covering topics such as Renewable Power Generation, Robotics Design and Construction, and Electric Powertrain Design.
