Entry requirements

A level: AAB including Biology and a second science We accept the following subjects as a second science: Chemistry, Computer Science, Further Mathematics, Mathematics, Physical Education, Physics, Psychology or Statistics. IB: 35 points including 5 in Higher Level Biology plus either 5 in another Higher Level science or mathematics subject, or 5 in two Standard Level science or mathematics subjects. We accept the following IB subjects as a second science: Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics (A&A or A&I), Physics, Psychology, Sports, exercise and health science BTEC: DDD We consider BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science (2016 syllabus) with all 7 mandatory units plus at least 2 units from 8,9,10,11,12,17,20. We consider BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science (2010 syllabus), please contact us for information on the units we accept.

About this course

BSc (Hons) Immunology and Infectious Disease, an immunology and infectious disease degree focusing on biomedical science and clinical medicine. Core topics include Research Methods. The course is taught across the Department of Biology and the Hull York Medical School, and students can optionally add a Year in Industry or a Year Abroad. The first year covers foundations through Becoming a Bioscientist: Core Skills, Physiology and Disease, and Molecules of Life. The second year focuses on experimental design and molecular microbiology through compulsory modules such as Becoming a Bioscientist: Experimental Design & Communication, Molecular Microbiology, Becoming a Bioscientist: Research in Action, and The Immune System, with optional choices including Mechanisms of Disease, Cell Biology, Genome Expression in Action, Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Medical Genetics, Molecular Biotechnology, and Introduction to Bioenterprise. The third year involves advanced study and an independent investigation through compulsory modules including BSc Research Project, Pathogens, Haematology and Immunology in Health and Disease, and Mechanisms to Therapies, alongside optional modules such as Cancer Cell and Molecular Biology, Ageing and Regenerative Medicine, Genomics, Advanced Topics in Biotechnology, Advanced Topics in Neuroscience, Genetics of Disease, Trends in Microbiology, and Molecular Recognition.
