About this course

BSc (Hons) Interactive Media with Games, a film studies degree focusing on interactive media and digital game production. Core topics include Programming and Design & Creative Practice. Students take two distinct routes in the first year according to prior programming experience, choosing between an applied route with creative coding and a foundational route with basic coding principles. The first year covers the foundations through Story for Interactive Media, Introduction to Media Technologies, Introduction to Digital Culture, Developing Interactive Media, Interactive Media Lab: Concept to Prototype, and Programming for Digital Media. The second year focuses on practical development and user experience through Game Design & Development in Real-Time Engines, Interactive Media and Society, Interactive Media Group Project, and User Experience Design, with optional modules such as GUI Media: Aesthetics & Issues of the Digital Screen, Web Application Design & Development, Audio Editing, Business for Screen, Creative Business Strategies, Creative Sound and Image Production, Global Producing Contexts, and Introduction to Sound Recording. The final year examines industry contexts via Gaming: Industry & Culture, alongside optional modules including AI & its Application to Creative Practice, Business & Innovation in Digital Enterprise, Mobile Interaction, Speculative Design, and The Future of Story: Storytelling in the Digital Age.
