About this course
BSc (Hons) in Neuroscience, a biomedical science degree examining the biological and psychological mechanisms of the brain and neurological diseases. Practical training is integrated throughout the degree through bespoke bioscientist modules and hands-on laboratory sessions. Students complete an independent capstone research project in the final year. The first year covers foundational concepts through compulsory modules including Becoming a Bioscientist: Core Skills, Brain and Behaviour 1, Genetics, Becoming a Bioscientist: Grand Challenge, Molecules of Life, and Cells to Organisms. The second year progresses with compulsory study in Becoming a Bioscientist: Experimental Design and Communication, Cell Biology, Brain and Behaviour 2, Becoming a Bioscientist: Research in Action, and Neuroscience, alongside optional modules such as Medical Genetics, Introduction to Bioenterprise, Molecular Biotechnology, and Behavioural Ecology. The third year focuses on advanced study via compulsory modules Bioscience Capstone Project, Principles of Cognitive Neuroscience, and Advanced Topics in Neuroscience. Optional choices in the final year include Neuroimaging of Vision, The Cognitive Neuroscience of Adolescent Decision-Making and Social Cognition, Ageing and Regenerative Medicine, Genomics, Memory and the Brain, Genetics of Disease, Advanced Topics in Gene Expression, and Molecular Recognition.
