A level: AAB including Physics and Mathematics. IB: 35 points overall, including 5 in Higher Level Mathematics (either Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretations) or 6 in Standard Level Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches), plus 5 in Higher Level Physics.
About this course
BSc (Hons) Physics with Astrophysics (with a year abroad), an undergraduate degree in physics and physics with astrophysics. Core topics include Statistics, Research Methods. The course includes a year abroad at a partner university and is accredited by the Institute of Physics. The first year covers fundamental principles through modules such as Classical Mechanics and Laboratories, Classical and Quantum Waves, Mathematical, Computational and Professional Skills 1, Electromagnetism and Relativity, Mathematical, Computational and Professional Skills 2, and Mapping the Universe and Laboratories. The second year continues with Thermodynamics and Electromagnetism, Mathematics, Professional Skills and Laboratories, Astrophysical Technologies and Space Science, Statistical and Solid State Physics, Quantum, Atomic, Nuclear and Particle Physics, and Advanced Mechanics, Astrophysical Laboratories and Skills. The final year includes the compulsory BSc Research Project and Skills and Stars and Galaxies. Optional modules allow students to explore areas such as Plasma Physics and Fusion, Quantum Mechanics, Advanced Theoretical Techniques and Modelling Matter, Condensed Matter Physics: Electrons in Solids, Relativity and Cosmology, Medical Physics, Nuclear and Particle, Quantum Science and Technologies, Astrobiology, Advanced Sensors and Instrumentation, Introduction to Clinical Engineering and Physiological Systems, and Scientific Supercomputing.
