About this course

MBiol (Hons) Biology is an integrated master's degree in biology spanning biomedicine, biotechnology, ecology, and evolutionary biology. Core topics include Research Methods and Fieldwork. The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology and offers optional placement or study abroad years. The first year establishes fundamental biological knowledge through compulsory modules such as Becoming a Bioscientist: Core Skills, Life on Earth, Genetics, and Molecules of Life. The second year builds experimental competence through Becoming a Bioscientist: Experimental Design and Communication alongside diverse optional choices including Ecological Solutions for Global Challenges, Cell Biology, and Molecular Microbiology. The third year centres on the compulsory Group Research Project alongside specialized optional studies such as Pathogens, Genomics, and the Ecology Field Course. The final fourth year is dedicated to advanced training through compulsory modules including Research Project, Research Skills, and Research Proposal.
