About this course
MChem (Hons) Chemistry, the Atmosphere and the Environment (with a year in industry), an undergraduate chemistry degree centred on atmospheric and environmental processes. Core topics include Research Methods. This four-year programme includes an industrial placement year and holds accreditation from the Royal Society of Chemistry, satisfying academic criteria for Chartered Chemist status. The first year covers core chemical principles through Foundations of Chemistry 1, Foundations of Chemistry 2, Introductory Skills and Practical 1, and Foundations of Chemistry 3. The second year progresses with Advanced Chemistry Concepts and Applications 1, Advanced Skills and Practical 1, and Green and Sustainable Chemistry. The third year explores specialised themes via Atmospheric Chemistry, Climate Change and Net Zero, Frontiers of Chemistry 1, and a Miniproject with Advanced Analysis: Analytical approaches for complex mixtures in the natural world. The final year involves an Advanced Research Project (Industry) alongside Professional Research Development and Research Communication.
