About this course
MChem (Hons) Chemistry, the Atmosphere and the Environment (with a year abroad), a chemistry degree centred on atmospheric and environmental processes. Core topics include Research Methods. The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry and meets the academic criteria for Chartered Chemist status, concluding with a final year spent abroad at an international partner institution. The first year covers core chemical principles through Foundations of Chemistry 1, Foundations of Chemistry 2, and Introductory Skills and Practical 1. The second year progresses to advanced concepts and practical techniques via Advanced Chemistry Concepts and Applications 1, Advanced Skills and Practical 1, and Green and Sustainable Chemistry. The third year addresses environmental concerns with modules such as Atmospheric Chemistry, Climate Change and Net Zero and Miniproject with Advanced Analysis: Analytical approaches for complex mixtures in the natural world. The final year focuses on independent research through Professional Research Development, Advanced Research Project (Abroad), and Research Communication.
