About this course
MChem (Hons) Chemistry (with a year in industry), a chemistry degree focused on chemical theory, laboratory practice, and molecular analysis within the chemical sciences. Core topics include Programming, Research Methods, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. This four-year master's programme is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry and includes an integrated professional placement year. The first year covers core chemical principles through compulsory modules such as Foundations of Chemistry 1, Foundations of Chemistry 2, Introductory Skills and Practical 1, and Foundations of Chemistry 3. The second year progresses to advanced concepts and practical training, featuring compulsory modules like Advanced Chemistry Concepts and Applications 1, Advanced Chemistry Concepts and Applications 2, Advanced Skills and Practical 1, and Advanced Chemistry Concepts and Applications 3, alongside optional choices including Green and Sustainable Chemistry and Programming and Machine Learning for Chemistry. The third year builds deeper subject knowledge via compulsory modules such as Frontiers of Chemistry 1, Advanced Topics and Practical, Frontiers of Chemistry 2, and Frontiers of Chemistry 3, plus specialist options like Atmospheric Chemistry, Climate Change and Net Zero and miniprojects. The final year centres on professional placement and independent investigation through compulsory modules including Advanced Research Project (Industry), Research Communication, and Professional Research Development.
