MEng Electronic and Computer Engineering
Entry requirements
A level: AAA including Maths. IB: 36 points overall with grade 5 in Higher Level Mathematics - Applications and Interpretation or 5 in Higher Level or Standard Level Mathematics - Analysis and Approaches. BTEC: We consider a range of BTEC qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications. For example: DDD in the BTEC National Extended Diploma plus A level Maths grade A DD in the BTEC National Diploma in any subject plus A level Maths grade A D in the BTEC National Extended Certificate plus AA at A level including Mathematics We consider BTEC Level 3 National Diploma/ Extended Diploma with Unit 7- Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems and Unit 8- Further Engineering Mathematics in place of A Level Mathematics.
About this course
MEng (Hons) Electronic and Computer Engineering is an undergraduate electrical and electronic engineering degree spanning four years full-time. Core topics include Programming, Circuit Design, Signal Processing, Data Analysis, Project Management, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The course includes a large team software engineering project and a substantial individual project, and is fully accredited by the IET to fulfil the training requirements for Chartered Engineer status. The first year covers foundational principles through modules such as Introduction to Engineering, Programming and Digital Interfacing, Mathematics, and Digital Electronics. The second year progresses to subjects including Mathematics, Signals and Systems, Circuit Design, and Software Design. The third year involves advanced study via modules like Communications, Systems and Digital Communications, Digital Engineering, and Electronics Group Project Part A. Optional modules in the third and fourth years allow specialisation in areas such as Digital Signal Processing, Electric Powertrain Design, Machine Learning, and Power Electronics. The final year culminates in an Individual Final Project alongside compulsory study in Cloud and Distributed Computing.
