About this course

MEnv (Hons) Environment, Economics and Ecology (with a placement year) is a geography degree examining the connections between human and natural systems, environmental conservation, and sustainable development. Core topics include Research Methods, Fieldwork, Environmental Analysis, and Global & Comparative Perspective. This five-year programme includes an integrated professional placement year and holds accreditation from the Institution of Environmental Sciences. The first year covers core foundations through Economics Principles, Ecological Principles, and Introduction to Research Skills. The second year builds competence with modules such as Enhancing Biodiversity, Applied Ecological Economics, and Research Skills and Project Design, alongside optional studies like Megacities and Urbanisation or Geographical Information Systems. Year 4 introduces compulsory study including Natural Resource Economics, Sustainability Clinic, and a Research Project, with optional modules covering areas such as Atmosphere and Ocean Science.
