A level: AAA including Physics and Mathematics. IB: 36 points overall, including 5 in Higher Level Mathematics (either Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretations) or 6 in Standard Level Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches), plus 5 in Higher Level Physics.
About this course
MPhys (Hons) Physics with Astrophysics (with a year in industry), an undergraduate physics and physics with astrophysics degree centred on astronomical and physical principles. Core topics include Statistics and Research Methods. The course includes a paid industrial placement year and holds accreditation from the Institute of Physics. Year 1 establishes foundational knowledge through Classical Mechanics and Laboratories, Classical and Quantum Waves, Mathematical, Computational and Professional Skills 1, and Mapping the Universe and Laboratories. Year 2 develops core understanding via Thermodynamics and Electromagnetism, Mathematics, Professional Skills and Laboratories, Astrophysical Technologies and Space Science, and Advanced Mechanics, Astrophysical Laboratories and Skills. Year 3 advances studies with compulsory modules such as Advanced Astrophysical Laboratory and Stars and Galaxies. Optional modules span subjects like Plasma Physics and Fusion, Quantum Mechanics, and Relativity and Cosmology. Year 5 concludes the degree with the compulsory MPhys Research Project and Skills alongside options including Scientific Supercomputing, Biophysics, and Cosmic Horizons.
