About this course
MPhys (Hons) Physics (with a year in industry), a physics degree centred on fundamental forces, matter, and scientific principles. Core topics include Statistics, Research Methods, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The programme includes a professional industry placement year between the academic stages and is accredited by the Institute of Physics. The first year covers foundational principles through Classical Mechanics and Laboratories, Classical and Quantum Waves, Mathematical, Computational and Professional Skills 1, and Electromagnetism and Relativity. The second year progresses with Thermodynamics and Electromagnetism, Mathematics, Professional Skills and Laboratories, Statistical and Solid State Physics, and Quantum, Atomic, Nuclear and Particle Physics. The third year involves Advanced Experimental Laboratory alongside optional study areas such as Plasma Physics and Fusion, Quantum Mechanics, and Medical Physics. The final year centres on the compulsory MPhys Research Project and Skills, supported by options spanning Scientific Supercomputing, Biophysics, Cosmic Horizons, and Medical Imaging and Physics.
