University of Sussex makes contextual offers (lower entry requirements) to applicants whose background may have limited their opportunities. Here's who qualifies for 2027 entry and how much lower the offer is.

Who is eligible for a contextual offer at University of Sussex?

To be considered for a contextual offer from University of Sussex you need one of the following: an IMD quintile 1-2 area, a POLAR4 quintile 1 area, free school meals, care experience, estrangement from your parents, refugee or asylum-seeker status, caring responsibilities, a widening-access programme, a widening-participation school or disrupted education.

You need any one of these:

• Live in England's most deprived 40% of areas (IMD quintiles 1-2)
• Live in a POLAR4 quintile 1 area (the 20% of areas where fewest young people go to university)
• Have been eligible for free school meals
• Are care-experienced or a care leaver
• Are estranged from your parents or guardians
• Have refugee, asylum-seeker or humanitarian-protection status (you or your family)
• Have caring responsibilities (a young carer, a parent, or similar)
• Have completed a recognised access or outreach programme (e.g. Sutton Trust, Realising Opportunities, or the university's own scheme)
• Attend a school or college with low progression to university, low results, or on the university's widening-participation list
• Have had your education significantly disrupted (bereavement, serious illness, family breakdown or similar)
